Bangkok Day Two

We've all heard the old phrase "you can take the girl out of spandex nation, but you can't take the spandex nation out of the girl."  Well, although I all but hung up my spandex after my harrowing journey around Lake Tahoe with no map, inadequate amounts of water, no idea of what the elevation gain and losses were, and no plan in case of separation from my biking buddy who had half the spare tire kit and the only phone (that actually wasn't what did it - it was MN winter, but that was a more interesting intro), the call of my spandex brethren was too much to resist in Bangkok and we embarked on a day long journey out to the countryside.

First stop: temple/monastery

It was a nice, peaceful spot to discuss whether or not to worry about getting tetanus after accidentally grabbing a rusty barbwire fence. Conclusion: no worry required.
Second stop: rando house/restaurant prep area? where we saw the most giant pile of fresh curry paste I will probably ever see
Canals behind the house/restaurant preparation area
World's most giant pig - resident under the platform of
this temple
Good clean fun - Thai countryside style. Feeding catfish.
You might be wondering why it took me so long to write this post, given that this trip occurred two months ago. The main reason is a burgeoning obsession with the Real Housewives family of amazing television programming.  The other reason is that I really struggled with the second half of the bike ride part of the story, largely because, it's impossible to tell it in writing and secondly because I feel bad telling a story that involves a total stranger doing something really embarrassing. If you want to know what happened, give me a call. All I have to say is - IF, you find yourself biking in Thailand on a narrow sidewalk surrounded on both sides by bog/dirty water/barb wire, and IF your guide yells "watch out for these low-hanging jack fruit!", WATCH OUT FOR THE GODDAMN JACK FRUIT!
