All I have to say is: WTF

From the Metro UK:

Thursday, August 27, 2009
Chinese workers have covered a giant steel bridge with butter because officials are fed up with traffic jams caused by people who slow down to watch suicide victims leaping to their death.

Obviously, read the whole article. But if you are so busy that you can't (as in, you are the president of the United States or currently at this moment driving an ambulance), I display below two money quotes:

Money Quote Number 1:
"The bridge guard said: 'Each time somebody threatens to commit suicide to get media attention or sympathy over personal problems we end up with several hours of tailbacks and there were lots of complaints.'"

Money Quote Number 2:
"Government spokesman Shiu Liang said: 'We tried employing guards at both ends but that didn't work - and we put up special fences and notices asking people not to commit suicide here.'" (Emphasis mine)

Props to Brian for (a) pointing out this awesome and extremely disturbing article; (b) coming up with the now obvious-seeming suggestion of traveling to Guangzhou to find one of these "notices" (see money quote number 2)...will report back upon conclusion of the visit in late September...hopefully with pictures; and (c) agreeing to change the name of our trivia team to "GO VIKES".

I'm not sure I understand Government spokesman Shiu Liang. "Nobody can get up there and anybody who tries either falls." Or...?

Either falls, or is caught? Either falls, or gets a stick of butter? Either falls or is put in prison for acting against the CCP by attempting suicide?

Thanks for the props but if we were ever to change the team name it would be in this order - Go Yellow Jackets, Go Braves, Go Saints. Notice the Vikes did not make that list and no matter how much I heart Brett Favre it's not going to change. We shall continue to blame it on the Dutch.
